Fengaros Festival 2019, 1-3 August, Kato Drys
more than 40 acts on 3 stages
Pioneering Cypriot music festival, Fengaros returns for its 9th edition, presenting a lineup of the cream of the crop from Cyprus, the Mediterranean and beyond. The first of its kind on the island, Fengaros’ 9th edition takes place on 1 - 3 August 2019, with more than forty acts on three stages across the quaint, idyllic village of Kato Drys in the Larnaca district.
The festival highlights musicians that have pushed boundaries of popular music and provides the island’s audience, nestled in the south-east Mediterranean region, with a window into the international music scene, simultaneously immersing local and tourist festival-goers and performers alike in traditional Cypriot heritage, through its setting in the agrotouristic village of Kato Drys. As an island that works as a geographical bridge between Europe, the Middle East and Africa, the festival innately features both western and non-western music, including contemporary pop and rock, folk music, dance music, hip hop, and much more.
This year’s lineup spotlights ground-breakers of the commonly-named “Greek Rock Revolution”, Planet of Zeus, along with Thrax Punks and Balothizer, who mix tradition with a contemporary sound, as well as pioneering Cypriot rapper JUΛIO, on the first day of the festival. A lineup that blends and experiments with contemporary pop music will be presented on day 2, with Marina Satti & Fonέs highlighting the night, showcasing their fusion of traditional Mediterranean, Balkan and Middle Eastern folk arrangements with pop and hip hop. Other features include synth pop and psychedelic folk artist Nalyssa Green, as well as a new indie electronic project between Nikolas Metaxas and GHSTWRLD called METAXAS x GHSTWRLD. The final day of the festival will be headlined by pop-rock chanson singer, Foivos Delivorias. Other highlights include the dynamic Vasiliki and The Amalgamation (featuring The Amalgamation Choir, who has touched audiences all over the globe with their acapella arrangements of traditional folk songs), tropical psych punk freakout trio Fumaça Preta, and dream pop songstress Eleni Era.
Previous editions of Fengaros Festival have seen artists such as Grammy Award winner Fantastic Negrito, soul star Joss Stone, plus indie pop and rock stars Joan As Police Woman, Alice Phoebe Lou, Deerhoof, TootArd, Soccer96 and Larry Gus.
