The apotheosis of Cyprus through Nikos Kazantzakis' eyes
The great Greek author and thinker Nikos Kazantzakis (08/02 / 1883-26 / 10/1957), has never hidden his love for Cyprus and the desire to travel around the world. The expression ''my ideal would be eight months journey and four months loneliness'', summarizing his passion for travel. Uuntil his death never stopped traveling. Having traveled to Greece, in Europe, Asia and Africa, one of his weaknesses was the island of Cyprus. Writing in one of his books, he refers to Cyprus starting with the sentence '' Cyprus is the true home of Venus. ''
Continuing and wanting to emphasize the natural beauty of Cyprus shall state: '' I never saw an island with so much beauty, never breathed air so full
with dangerous sweetest advice.
Travelling, then, throughout the island describes in great detail, drawing on great writing, the route from Famagusta to Paphos. As such his words: '' I went from Famagusta to Larnaca from Larnaca to Limassol, where within the foams of unsettled, indestructible liquid element, a female mask mystery born.
To sum up, it's worth mentioning that Nikos Kazantzakis had a special weakness to Famagusta. In an interview in the newspaper 'The News', in 1954, he says:
'' And for Cyprus. Famagusta. How i missed her. Nothing exists in the world that gives me the feeling of Women as Famagusta. It's one of the most beautiful places on earth. I wouldn't want to die before going back to Famagusta. ''
Unfortunately, three years later died, leaving behind a vast cultural heritage were included in this excellent descriptions of our island.
