Interview with Mrs. Maria Kyriakidou

Co-owner of Mallon Glykis – Traditional Café

Cyprus Alive spoke with Mrs. Maria Kyriakidou, one of the two owners of Mallon Glikis in the heart of Limassol.

1. Mrs. Maria, when did you open Mallon Glikis?
In 2013, my former business partner, Konstantinos, and I decided to open something of our own, something that was missing from the city, and that’s how Mallon Glikis was created.

The space was previously a bookstore, and we transformed it into a traditional café, which is why, at first, we offered coffee, homemade lemonade, and the well-known traditional breakfast.

In 2023, my childhood friend, Doros, and I became business partners, renovating the space of Mallon Glikis and adding new options to our menu.

3. Where exactly can we find you?
We are located right in the heart of Limassol, on Saripolou Street, next to Limassol Agora.

We renovated our space in 2023, and it is now different from what it was in previous years. The décor is minimal, bright, and welcoming, with wooden chairs, clay light fixtures – one of the unique features of the café – white tables, and counters.

3. What can we try at Mallon Glikis?
Our recipes are inspired by traditional Greek and Cypriot flavours, all cooked by us. We offer brunch, lunch, and dinner, as well as homemade savoury and sweet treats to go with your coffee.

Our brunch has become very popular, especially the "Cypriot" dish and the Strapatsada. Our daily specials are also highly sought after, while our meze platters are amongst the first food choices.

4. What makes Mallon Glikis stand out and differ from others?
As I mentioned earlier, our goal was to open a place that was missing from the city and to create a spot for groups of friends, families, young and older people. Essentially, for anyone who appreciates quality, seeks a place to enjoy their coffee or ouzo, and craves homemade food like grandma's cooking.

I believe we've achieved this because people can see how much we care about Mallon Glikis. We don’t see it as just a business, but as a big family. As classic as it may sound, we aim to offer quality. We want the people who come in to enjoy delicious food, relax, and have a good time.
