A ferry link will connect Cyprus and Greece from Summer 2020
A return ticket is expected to cost around €130 per person, including port fees.
A ferry link between Limassol and Piraeus, is expected to start this summer, according to the Deputy Minister of Shipping, Natasa Pilides.
Talking to the press a few days ago, the Deputy Minister of Shipping said that, a return ticket is expected to cost around €130 per person, including port fees. With regards to vehicle transportation on the ferry, a meeting will be held this week with the Minister of Transport.
Natasa Pilides informed the press that the response by the European Commission to Cyprus’ proposal for subsidising the ferry connection between Limassol and Piraeus is expected soon. Once the proposal is approved, a tender competition will be announced with the aim of having the service available this summer.
Pilides added that there is interest from companies in Cyprus, Greece and other EU countries and the subsidy is expected to be slightly over €5m.
The ferry trip is estimated to last around 30 hours and the plan is to offer a route once a week, from May to September and during the winter months once every fortnight.
The ferry link between Cyprus and Greece was terminated in 2000.
The ferry connection will bring benefits to both Cyprus and Greece:
- Cheaper fares
- Boost tourism
- Open new markets
- Creation of jobs
- Alternative options of travelling
