Sexual health and nutrition

Sexual health and nutrition

Sexuality is an important part of everyday life for both men and women. Sexual health refers to a state of well-being that enables men and women to fully participate in and enjoy sexual activity. In this article we will analyse how nutrition affects certain parts of our sexuality.

Nutrition, stress and psychology.

It is a fact that stress and bad psychology are two of the most important factors that negatively affect our mood for personal moments. Studies have revealed that there is a relationship between less stress and more fruits and vegetables, omega-3 fatty acids, "healthy" eating patterns, eating breakfast, micronutrient supplements, zinc, selenium, magnesium, and probiotics. Therefore, by choosing foods that contain the above nutrients and adding them to our daily nutrition plan, you will strengthen the reduction of stress and, by extension, your sexual health.

Erectile Dysfunction

Regarding erectile dysfunction and how a balanced diet can affect it, there is limited data. From a study that has been conducted, it appears that a higher usual intake of specific foods rich in flavonoids is associated with a reduced incidence of erectile dysfunction. Some foods rich in flavonoids are berries, blueberries, grapes, legumes, tomatoes, strawberries, oranges and others. We notice that all these foods have bright colours, which helps us to find more easily and at a first glance foods that contain flavonoids so that we can include them in our diet. Although it is almost certain that stress makes it difficult to achieve an erection, men can better control their sexual health through diet.

Can nutrition treat infertility effectively?

Infertility is the inability to conceive after 12 months of unprotected sex, or six months for women aged 35 and over. Many factors such as the physical, emotional, psychological and financial status of infertile couples are greatly affected, especially after diagnostic and/or therapeutic treatments. According to studies, there is growing evidence that diet can play an important role in modulating fertility-related outcomes in both men and women. Eating a balanced diet on a daily basis consisting of foods such as fish, poultry, whole grains, fruits, vegetables and healthy fats has been associated with better fertility in both men and women, according to research. Despite the many factors affecting sexual infertility, nutrition can affect sexual/reproductive function in both leaves equally.
