The creation of the first sustainable park in Cyprus is a fact
The best designs were awarded
On the occasion of World Environment Day, the Cyprus Sustainable Tourism Initiative (CSTI), the University of Nicosia and the Municipality of Engomi awarded the best design proposals for the first sustainable park in Cyprus.
The ceremony took place on Friday, 4th of June 2021 at 7.00 p.m. in the Cine Studio of the University of Nicosia. The ceremony was followed by a symbolic tree planting and a reception at the park location.
The event was attended by the Mayor of Engomi, the Professors of the Department of Architecture of the University of Nicosia, members of the Cyprus Sustainable Tourism Initiative (CSTI), the students who submitted design proposals for the first Sustainable Park in Cyprus, their friends and family. The 3 first students presented their design proposals and impressed the audience. Certificates of recognition were given to all participating students and prizes to the winners.

Mr. Takis Papachristoforou, first Officer of the Forestry Department, was also honoured for his valuable contribution in the selection of flora that will contribute to the sustainability of the park.
The park, an area granted by the Municipality of Engomi, aims to contribute to the promotion of the best practices and the creation of an interactive learning and entertaining environment for the public, especially for children and young people.
Its implementation is based on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations by 2030.
