Eighteen Blue Flags were awarded to the Municipality of Paralimni at the Blue Flag awarding event for the beaches of Cyprus that meet the criteria and are awarded by the National Blue Flag Judge and the CYMEPA Organisation, making it the first Municipality all over Cyprus in number of Blue Flags.
Specifically, these are the beaches: Armyropigado, Lombardi, Glyky Nero, Kapparis, Skoutarospilioi, Agia Triada, Minas, Vrysoudia, Louma, Pernera, Potami, Vrysi C, Vrysi B, Vrysi A, Protaras (Fig Tree Bay), Byzakia, Nisia and Nissia Gardens.
The Blue Flag is an international institution that promotes environmental awareness and is awarded to beaches that meet the criteria of the National Judge's assessment of the cleanliness of the bathing waters. It is the most recognizable and widespread ecological symbol of quality in the world, which rewards organized coasts and is awarded according to strict criteria.
Through the institution, beaches that achieve high quality environmental goals are awarded. A prerequisite for awarding a coast with the Blue Flag is the excellent quality of the bathing waters. Another 33 evaluation criteria for the coasts and 38 for the marinas are also taken into account, certifying, among others, the safety of bathers, the most complete information possible for visitors, the cleanliness and organization of the coast and the coastal area, the protection of natural wealth and the promotion of environmental awareness.
